Santa Monica, CA -- Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School Board Member Ben Allen has earned the endorsement of Los Angeles Register, a major newspaper in Los Angeles, in his bid to represent California's 26th State Senate District.
A Los Angeles Register article announcing the endorsement spoke of California's need of a Legislature that "focuses on the fundamentals of state government, especially as the state struggles to maintain a balanced budget." The article also outlines California's struggle with massive unfunded liabilities.
The article said this of Allen:
"We believe that Mr. Allen has the right balance of experience in government, working with budgets, all the while appreciating the complexity of government finances. The Register endorses Mr. Allen because of his stated commitment to shoring up California’s infrastructure and identifying ways of making the state a friendlier place to do business."
"I am honored to receive the endorsement of Los Angeles Register. The endorsement reaffirms my experience and ability to come up with creative ideas in approaching the challenges that California faces today. The statement of confidence encourages me to work even harder for the readers of the newspaper and all residents of Senate District 26," said Ben Allen.
Los Angeles Register joins Los Angeles Daily News and Daily Breeze in endorsing Ben Allen, the only candidate who grew up in the District and who has represented Californians as a public servant at the state and local levels. He has earned the endorsements of some of the region's most popular and respected leaders, including former U.S. Representatives Anthony Beilenson, Howard Berman and Mel Levine; Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky; former Los Angeles County Supervisor Ed Edelman; State Senators Fran Pavley and Jerry Hill; former State Senators Tom Hayden and Alan Sieroty; Assemblymembers Richard Bloom, Steven Bradford, Ian Calderon, Isadore Hall, III, and Adrin Nazarian; former Assemblymembers Terry Friedman, Warren Furutani, Richard Katz, Tony Mendoza, and George Nakano; Los Angeles City Councilmembers Paul Koretz, Paul Krekorian, and Tom Labonge; and environmental organizations Sierra Club California and California League of Conservation Voters.
