Los Angeles Daily News and The Daily Breeze Endorse Allen

Santa Monica, CA -- Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School Board Member Ben Allen has earned the endorsement of Los Angeles Daily News and Daily Breeze, the only major regional newspapers to weigh in on this race for his candidacy for the California State Senate in the 26th District. The Daily Breeze is the leading paper in the South Bay, and the Daily News is the second most widely-read paper in Los Angeles.

A Daily News/Daily Breeze article announcing the endorsement spoke of the challenges facing the district and the state, and the need for a representative who will "provide a strong voice and not get lost in the sea of legislators in Sacramento."

The article said this of Allen:

"Allen, a member of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District board, is a lawyer and lecturer at UCLA who boasts local roots in the district. Allen seeks to be a good financial steward of the state. He said he will use his experience making budget decisions at the school district to guide him on similar issues at the state level. He also supports tax incentives for the entertainment and renewable-energy industries."

"It's a huge honor to receive this endorsement from these important newspapers," said Allen. "We need a strong and independent voice representing this district in Sacramento, and I hope to bring my considerable experience, energy, and passion to the Capitol as well."

This endorsement follows several other important recent endorsements from across the region, including those from Beverly Hills Mayor Lili Bosse, the Santa Monica Democratic Club, West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tem John Heilman, the Pacific Palisades Democratic Club, Hermosa Beach City Councilwoman Nanette Barragan, the Miracle Mile Democratic Club, LAUSD Board Member Monica Garcia, and US Congressman Jose Serrano. Allen started his campaign with the support of LA County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, State Senator Fran Pavley, and most of the elected officials in Santa Monica, and has been gaining steam ever since.
