LGBTQ Rights

Ben is devoted to ensuring the equal treatment of all who live in Senate District 26. Ben is a committed supporter of the LGBTQ community and a decades-long supporter of marriage equality and the invalidation of federal laws that discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation.  Ben is proud to have the endorsement of the Stonewall Democratic Club, the Stonewall Young Democrats, West Hollywood Mayor Pro Tempore John Heilman, and West Hollywood City Councilmember John Duran.


Ben has a proven track record of fighting for the rights on the LGBTQ community:

 a. Ben led the fight to protect and support the LBTQ students in schools when the Westboro Baptist Church protested outside their classrooms

 b. While on the school board, Ben has worked to support student led groups such as Gay-Straight Alliances and Project 10

 c. Ben is a contributor to the Trevor Project and Lambda Legal.

 d. Ben opposes cuts in the state budget to programs that serve the LGBT community, including programs that assist Californians living with HIV and AIDS.

 e. Ben supports requiring cultural competency training on LGBT issues for health professionals, law enforcement officials, domestic violence service providers, and programs that serve youth and seniors.

 f. Ben supports the pledge under the Code of Fair Campaign Practices by which a candidate may voluntarily declare that he or she will not use or permit any appeal to negative prejudice based on race, sex, religion, national origin, physical health status, age, sexual orientation or gender identity
