Laborers' International Union of North America Pacific Southwest Region Endorses Ben Allen

Santa Monica, CA -- In his bid to represent California's 26th State Senate District, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board Member Ben Allen has earned the endorsement of the Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA) Pacific Southwest Region.

"[W]e are encouraged by [Ben's] pursuit of fairness and truth and that the creation of good, quality jobs will remain a priority focus for [him] in representing the interest of our communities, our Union, and all working women, men, and families…. [W]e take seriously [Ben's] commitment to these issues that are critical to our Union and our members and to this end we look forward to assisting [Ben's] campaign and working with [him] in progressing our mutual goals in the future,” stated Rocco Davis on behalf of LiUNA Pacific Southwest Region.

With more than half a million members in the United States, LiUNA is arguably the most progressive and fastest-growing union of construction workers.  LiUNA is one of the most diverse and effective unions representing its public service employees who are on the forefront of the construction industry, a sector that employs 12 million workers and produces 5 per cent of our country's economic output.

“I am honored to have the endorsement of the widely-respected LiUNA Pacific Southwest Region.  As a native of Senate District 26, I am committed to fighting for broad improvements to our infrastructure and mass transportation system, the foundation of our vast District.  I will continue to work alongside LiUNA to protect the rights of our valuable construction workers who are building the future of our flourishing and vibrant District,” said Allen.

Allen placed first among a crowded field in the open primary for the 26th State Senate District that was held on June 3, 2014.

With its endorsement, the Pacific Southwest Regional Office of LiUNA joins other local unions and laborer groups including the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 11, Amalgamated Transit Union, and the Los Angeles Area Locals of the International Alliance of the Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) in endorsing Ben Allen for State Senate, the only candidate who grew up in the District and who has represented Californians as a public servant at the state and local levels. He has earned the endorsements of some of the region's most recognizable and respected leaders, including former U.S. Representatives Anthony Beilenson, Howard Berman, Yvonne Burke, and Mel Levine; Los Angeles County Supervisors Zev Yaroslavsky and former Los Angeles County Supervisor Ed Edelman; State Senators Fran Pavley and Jerry Hill; former State Senators Tom Hayden and Alan Sieroty; and Los Angeles City Councilmembers Paul Koretz, Paul Krekorian, and Tom Labonge.   For the full list of Ben Allen's endorsements, please click here.
