Santa Monica, CA -- Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School Board Member Ben Allen has earned the endorsement of Former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riodan, in his race for the California State Senate. Allen, a two-term Santa Monica-Malibu School Board Member, former University of California Regent, and Lecturer at UCLA School of Law, is running for the newly redrawn and open 26th State Senate District.
Riordan, a longtime resident of the District, offered an enthusiastic and glowing endorsement of Allen. “Ben Allen has a proven track record as a financial watchdog and policy leader, and he has worked with people from all backgrounds to do what’s right for our neighborhoods.” said Riordan. “Ben will fight to ensure accountability from government and that's the kind of person we need in the California State Senate. I'm proud to endorse him."
Riordan, who served as Los Angeles Mayor between 1993 and 2001, is one of the most popular Republican elected officials in overwhelmingly Democratic Los Angeles and is one the most prominent Republicans in California.
“Our campaign is winning people over from across the political spectrum because of Ben’s commitment to strong public schools, accountability, good governance, and job creation,” said Eric Hacopian, Allen’s campaign consultant. “With no Republican on the ballot in this race, Mayor Riordan’s support will be so helpful in gaining broad-based support on election day.”
Ben Allen, leading the field in real fundraising, is the only candidate who grew up in the district and who has served as a board member at both the state and local levels. He has earned the endorsements of some of the region’s most popular and respected leaders, including Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and State Senator Fran Pavley, the Los Angeles County Peace Officers Association, and a long list of organizations, mayors, council members, school board members, and former legislators from across the district: www.benallenforsenate.com/endorsements.
