Former Los Angeles City Councilmember Rudy Svorinich Jr. Endorses Ben Allen

Santa Monica, CA --  Santa Monica-Malibu School Board Member Ben Allen has earned the endorsement of former President Pro Tempore of the Los Angeles City Council Rudy Svorinich, Jr. for Allen's bid to represent the 26th District in the California State Senate.

“Ben was born and raised in this District and gained much needed local experience before mounting a campaign for office. His 'grassroots' story mirrors mine. In tough economic times, Ben has proven his leadership abilities and character to the residents of this District. This is why I'm endorsing Ben Allen for California State Senate. Ben will be a great State Senator," said Councilmember Svorinich.

"I am very pleased to receive the endorsement of Councilmember Svorinich, who shares a similar path of local community service and recognizes my lifelong work in the District. His endorsement adds to a long list of well-respected local leaders who support my campaign, and I could not be more proud," said Ben Allen.

A long-time resident of San Pedro and the Palos Verdes Peninsula, Councilmember Svorinich represented Los Angeles' 15th Council District from 1993 to 2001, until he was termed out of office. While a Councilmember, Svorinich served as President Pro Tempore of the Los Angeles City Council ---the third highest leadership position in L.A. city government --- representing the diverse communities of Watts, Wilmington, Harbor City, and Harbor Gateway, as well as his hometown of San Pedro. In addition to serving as the Chairman of the Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority, Svorinich served on a variety of committees for the City of Los Angeles, in particular as chairman of the transportation and housing committees and as vice-chairman of committees that oversaw the Port of Los Angeles, Los Angeles International Airport, Department of Water and Power, and the construction of the Staples Center, which is home to four professional sports franchises.

Ben Allen is the only candidate who grew up in the District and has represented Californians as a public servant at the state and local levels. He has earned the endorsements of some of the region's most popular and respected leaders, including former U.S. Representatives Howard Berman and Mel Levine; Los Angeles County Supervisors Zev Yaroslavsky and Don Knabe; former Los Angeles County Supervisor Ed Edelman; State Senators Jerry Hill and Fran Pavley; former State Senators Tom Hayden and Alan Sieroty; Assemblymembers Richard Bloom, Steven Bradford, Ian Calderon, Isadore Hall, III, and Adrin Nazarian; former Assemblymembers Terry Friedman, Warren Furutani, Richard Katz, Tony Mendoza, and George Nakano; Los Angeles City Councilmembers Paul Koretz, Paul Krekorian, and Tom Labonge. For a full list endorsements, please visit:
